Cultural Center Celebrates
10th Anniversary of Scholarship
Concerts & Recitals
The Hi-Desert Cultural Center's Desert Music Foundation has provided over $25,000 in music scholarships to local student musicians
JOSHUA TREE, CA – Student musicians of all ages, both instrumentalists and vocalists, are invited to participate in the Tenth Annual Scholarship Concerts & Recitals program offered by the Hi-Desert Cultural Center's Desert Music Foundation. Student musicians of both the Morongo Basin and Coachella Valley who study under a music instructor may participate. Applications are now available to register either as a recitalist or as a scholarship contender for cash awards. The Desert Music Foundation has provided over $25,000 in scholarships to local student musicians.
Scholarship contenders have only one month to prepare their music portfolios for consideration as a scholarship recipient. The deadline for all applications is Monday, December 5th, 2011. The Semi-Final round of competition will be held on Sunday, January 8th, 2012. All finalists, scholarship competitors and recitalists will publicly perform at the main event on Saturday, January 21st, 2012 at 1pm. All events will be held in the Blak Box Theater located at 61231 on Highway 62, in Joshua Tree. Eligible participants may also be considered and chosen to participate in the next stage of competition in the Rotary International Music Competition.
The scholarship concerts began ten years ago to enable the opportunity for student musicians to gain real performance experience on stage in front of live audiences. "We've had incredible support from private donors, the Joshua Tree Rotary and the Yucca Valley Sunset Rotary clubs," stated founder Jarrod Radnich. "Though we've had participants in our program utilize their scholarship awards to later compete and win top prizes in CBS Star Search and the Rotary International Music Competitions among others, one of the most important elements is that we see and watch each of our participants develop a sense of self and personal confidence that they will carry with them the rest of their lives."
This unique program helps to develop live performance experience for student musicians interested in auditions for college and professional performance contracts. All participants receive adjudicated critiques of their live performances from an accomplished panel of adjudicators. A DVD of all of the musicians' performances will be available.
