“Three Viewings” provides a “View to A Thrill”

HI-DESERT CULTURAL CENTER PROVIDES AN EVENING ABOUT SURVIVORS AND THE POWER OF LOVE AND KINDNESS TO HEAL

Special Yucca Valley Soroptimist Sponsored Performance November 9th!

JOSHUA TREE, CA – “Three Viewings” is presented as a special engagement for one weekend only November 7, 8 and 9, at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s Blak Box Theatre. Winner of a Las Vegas “Tony Award,” this award-winning “Best of Las Vegas” production takes you on a roller-coaster ride of emotion and features the original cast.

“Three Viewings” is three interconnected one-act plays dealing with life, loves, and family as filtered through the goings on in a funeral parlor in a western Pennsylvania town. These stories weave together to leave you thoroughly exhilarated in this celebration of love and life. Simple, poignant and well-acted, this no-frills performance is exhilarating and fresh. The ending - that comes after a good deal of turmoil - is a romantically sweet finale that puts the events of the entire play in perspective.

Regarding this particular performance, according to Las Vegas reviewer, “Three Viewings deals with death. But that shouldn't stop you from seeing this well-acted, witty production, because the subject matter is often more humorous and bittersweet than morbid. Greenhouse Theatrical Group presents what may be the most pleasant surprise of the Las Vegas summer theater season.”
According to Jarrod Radnich, President of the Cultural Center, “The play finds humor in the absurdity of life. The particular director brings humor and sensitivity to the show. In traditional Blak Box spirit, the show is presented without a set (just an easy chair and a small TV cart) or any other bells and whistles, yet produces a riveting meditation on survival.”

The actors of this particular production of Three Viewings have received rave reviews. According to another reviewer, “Byron Tidwell's performance is one that should be bottled up and made a permanent reference on how to turn a monologue into an edge-of-the-seat dramatic experience. Ms. Tidwell's ability to transform herself, on the drop of a dime, from a gregarious, giggling, socially at-ease charmer to a weeping, frightened, lost little girl - while never losing the consistency of her character - is remarkable.”

“Three Viewings” runs November 7th and 8th with a special November 9th performance sponsored by the Yucca Valley Soroptimists. All performances take place at the newly renovated Blak Box Theatre with performances beginning Friday at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 7:00 pm, and Sunday at 2:00 pm.   Tickets are $15 adults and $13 seniors, children and military. Soroptimist tickets are $20 a piece. To order tickets, call the box office at 366-3777 or order tickets online at www.hidesertculturalcenter.com using the new, easy to use Vendini ticketing system.

NOVEMBER 21-22, 2008

Sganarelle, or "The Imaginary Cuckold," tells of a husband outraged by what he perceives, incorrectly, to be his wife's infidelity, though he would much prefer not to be forced to defend his honor. The funniest, wisest, most engaging new show in town is more than 300 years old! Long considered the greatest dramatist from France, this play demonstrates Moliere's genius gift for farce. Originally commissioned by the City of Rancho Mirage, these special performances are by the award-winning California Desert Regional Theatre.

ON THE VERGE
DECEMBER 5, 2008

"On the Verge" is a dynamic play about the adventures of three Victorian women exploring into what they believe to be Terra Incognita, a new, unexplored land. The three are from very different exploration backgrounds but all exhibit their own form of independence from the world in general and specifically men. The three together discuss many aspects of their pasts in exploring, with Mary and Fanny frequently trying to outdo each other. This special performance is by the award-winning Groves Cabin Theatre.
