Unique Orchestral Concert to perform at Blak Box
ONE OF THE DESERT’S BEST KEPT SECRETS, THE JUNIOR PHILHARMONIC IS GARNERING NATIONAL ATTENTION FOR ITS UNIQUE PROGRAM
JOSHUA TREE, CA - The Hi-Desert Cultural Center and the Desert Music Foundation will be presenting a special concert one night only featuring one of the Desert’s best kept secrets: the Junior Philharmonic, or “J-PHIL.” Performing this Saturday night, May 23 at 8PM, the J-PHIL will be performing several pieces from some of Hollywood’s most beloved films.
The J-PHIL is truly an experimental phenomenon and is the brainchild of Jarrod Radnich, a Desert native and musical prodigy. What began as a simple experiment years ago is beginning to gather the attention of national organizations. What is it? Simply stated, the J-PHIL enables the opportunity for musicians of all ages, all instruments, and all levels of musical proficiency to come together and play music in a collaborative, fun, and non-threatening environment. This model drawn the attention of several nationally based concerns and is being applauded for its creativity and effectiveness.
Craig Knudsen, Cultural Center Vice President, Yamaha International Artist and Software Innovator, commented that “over 90 percent of people in the United States wish they could play a musical instrument, yet sadly, only 7 percent of Americans play music once a month. J-PHIL is that mechanism that enables people, professional or students, the opportunity to play music together in an environment that helps keep people involved in the music making process.” Knudsen goes on to explain that, “All of the music parts are individually orchestrated by Radnich based on the skill level of each individual musician and that is what enables both dedicated students and seasoned professional musicians to play together. "
"When you see 67-year-old great grandmother Margaret Adams playing along with 8-year-old Rebecca Roark, it is both endearing and inspirational at the same time. You’ll get goose bumps!”
The evening concert will be further enhanced with special musical performances from winner’s of the McCallum Theatre’s prestigious “Open Call” Competition, and will also feature special musical insights into the pieces that are being performed. If that isn’t enough, be the first to be a part of a recreational music making drum circle where the audience will be given percussion instruments you will be able to be a part of the music making process!
The J-PHIL Orchestral Concert will take place at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s new hi-tech Blak Box Theatre on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 8PM, located directly behind the historic Playhouse. Tickets are $15 with proceeds benefiting the J-PHIL and the Music Scholarship Program for aspiring musicians.
