Christmas Eve is no bed of roses for struggling private eye Cactus O'Riley, who’s got a bad case of the holiday blues. It's a tough business; is she really cut out to be a detective? Should she try to scrape up the rent, or close up shop for good? The last surprise package she needs is a lovesick lawyer, a pair of armed-and-goofy fugitives looking for missing “Jake” Marley, and her male secretary's overbearing mother, who mistakes a tense hostage situation for just the perfect little holiday murder mystery party. It's a dickens of a Christmas for Cactus as she digs up long-buried mysteries, looks for a few small miracles, and takes a second chance on love, luck, and the life of a private eye.
“A Christmas Cactus” features several Desert Theatre League award-winning actors and nominees: Donnette Swain as Cactus O’Reilly, Corbett Brattin as the lovelorn district attorney, Chris Hernanadez as Fred the male secretary, Serena Salieri as Fred’s mother, Kurt Schauppner as the goofy armed fugitive, and Manny Rincon as the illegal alien.
“A Christmas Cactus” plays December 11-14 and December 18-23. All shows (Monday through Friday) at 8:00 p.m. except Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Matinee Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Presented in new “surround sound” at the hi-tech Blak Box Theatre, located directly behind the historical Hi-Desert Playhouse at 61231 Hwy 62 in Joshua Tree, CA.
